This is the Wild West Sokwe Safari. Sokwe means chimpanzee in Kiswahili. The Gombe Stream National Park is located on the shores of Lake Tanganyika, on the west-most point of Tanzania. This is an active safari that involves flying (to Kigoma), boat safari (to Gombe) and walking in the Gombe Stream.
Gombe Stream’s main attraction is the chimpanzee families that live protected in the park’s boundaries. You will walk deep into the forest to observe and sit with the extraordinary primates for a close-up encounter. Gombe Stream has other species of primates such as vervet and colobus monkeys, and baboons. Forest pigs, dik-dik and a wide variety of tropical birdlife also inhabit the dense forest – the only jungle Tanzania has.
